Benefit from nature’s “healer”: Ozone therapy at the biological dentist’s office

Ozone is one of the most exciting “helpers” biological dentists have to heal and restore the health of the teeth, gums, and other tissues in a way that also supports comfort, precise treatment, and a safe, low-risk experience. As such, it is a great fit with the many other dental services available at Gateway Oral Health Center in St. George, Utah, to bring out your best, healthiest smile and your most “well” self.

What is “ozone”?

In nature, these three atoms of oxygen are created due to the interaction with UV radiation from the sun’s rays. Medical-grade ozone/oxygen may be produced by passing it through a high-energy electric field. This process creates ozone at specific doses, which can be applied to do wonderful things for your health.

Why is medical-grade ozone so powerful?

When introduced to treatment, ozone supports a process whereby harmful microorganisms are destroyed (as they have no natural defenses to protect against this process or reaction). When applied to a specific treatment site or tissues, ozone may disinfect areas precisely, effectively, and safely. Additionally, ozone is associated with numerous other reactions that benefit us as dental providers, such as increased blood flow, improved immune response, and rapid, natural healing.

How do you use ozone at your office?

Ozone can be used in all aspects of dentistry. That’s one of the things that makes it so unique. For instance, we can apply ozone as a liquid, oil, or gas to target the bacteria and inflammation associated with gum disease. Since the ozone can be placed precisely into the periodontal pockets between the teeth and gums, it is an exact method to eradicate harmful organisms and encourages gingival healing. As another example, our dentists, Drs Bryce Eagar and Matthew Geddes can “arrest” tooth decay and cavities development with ozone therapy and without more aggressive restorative dentistry treatments. It also helps support the long-term success and health of root canal-treated teeth because ozone more thoroughly disinfects than traditional “irrigants” used to sterilize root canals during treatment.

Another benefit is that we get results for a wide range of preventative, general, and restorative dentistry procedures without prescription medications and their potential side effects.

How can ozone therapy help me?

Ozone can be used as a natural, safe, and effective healer. It may be easily incorporated into treatments and regular checkups as a preventive. It is also one of many adjuncts and tools available at our biological dental office to support optimal treatment and the best experience.
